De-barred????
A weary mother.....an absent father...brothers and sisters...empathetic strangers....crowded places...furtive, assessive glances....notes exchanging....disco lights...Hindi music...alcohol filled breath...nowhere else to go..chamber of horrors...trafficking of children
Yes, I'm talking about the banning of dance bars in Maharashtra. This has resulted in the unemployment of almost 75000 staff in the dance bars on the whole. With the ban coming to effect recently, all these womens' fears have come true and they have to look for some other means to earn their livelihood. NGOs state the fact that trafficking of children is growing on a mass scale and so this ban is absolutely needed. But the fact is trafficking exists even outside the dance bars and will continue to exist too. What about the red light areas? Trading of minors goes on there everyday. This ban is going to force these women to take severe steps which cannot be thought of. They have to be provided some work in cottage industries or some small mills because otherwise they have no option to earn their bread and butter. What was going on in the confines of four walls of flashy lights will come out in the open. Illegal bars might open up. No rights can be taken off in the pretext of moral policing. Because the bitter fact is that misusers of law are the lawholders themselves. Women exploitation doesn't happen only in dance bars. Even public places are not safe for women nowadays. What measures has the government taken to stop the exploitation? Ban is not the answer unless it has an alternate solution. The government can regulate and organize the bar girls and the bars and make provisions for their minimum wages and the rampant trafficking of children should be controlled. And please...its not the game of politics....its a game of chess....pure black and white....its a game of lives.....
