An Enlightening Journey With The Monk....

Every time a good book comes around I think I almost smell it. The same thing happened with this particular book which is "The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari" by Robin Sharma. I had been hearing about this book since the past one month from various sources and was thinking of buying a copy of it. But luckily when I met Phal day before yesterday, she had a copy of it and I took it from her 2 grab a read. And I must say its an enlightening book written in lucid language. It is light on the mind. And the best thing is it doesnt say something that we already dont know..it just highlights the things that we tend to forget in our hectic lives.
It basically stresses on the fact that how important it is to be positive in life, to be determined to achieve your goals and to be focussed. And only if you are happy can you make others around you happy.

Some of the statements in the book which stood out for me are:

Im an artist at living; my art of work is my life.

There's a difference between well-being and well-off.

While we cannot choose how we will die but we can always choose how we will live.

A negative thought is like an embryo---the more you feed it, the stronger it grows.

Never sacrifice happiness for the sake of achievemet. The secret is to happily achieve.

Thanks Phal for the book cos I had been searching it for quite sometime:-) And for people who haven't read it, all I can say is its a good book and read it if u come across it!!And if anyone wants to know more about the author they can have a look here

Tea With Deeps-2!!!

Welcome back to the most happening blog show in town, Tea With Deeps!! Today I have with me the combination of beauty and brains as guests on my show. My first guest on the show today is the erudite FM of India, Mr. P. Chidambaram and my second guest is the beautiful Miss.World, Priyanka Chopra.

Dee: Congratulations on the budget,Mr.FM!! So i guess now u must be relieved??

C: Well, all i can say is proposing a budget was difficult as it was when i was proposing my wife!! The former deals with pleasing the coalition partners while the latter deals with pleasing my life partner.

P: Hmm...that's why i prefer doing diverse kinda roles on screen in my recent flicks. I played the "real" partner in Karam and the "other" partner in Aitraaz!!!

Dee: So Priyanka, what was your most memorable moment?

P: Winning the Miss.World title for sure cos it was really a "dream" come true for me!!

C: Well actually nowadays there are so many beauty pageants happening that they can also start having contests like "Not Miss. World", "Not Mr.World" kinda titles. I am sure Priyanka can be a judge for either of these contests too!!!

Dee: Well FM Sir, what is VAT actually?

C: It is a hidden sales tax. Or to say it in layman terms..."kahaan tax lagaya...dhoondte reh jaoge!!"

P: Shucks...ya thats why i was telling my friends the other day "total VAT lag gayi"!!!

Dee: So is that gonna see an increase in the number of items imported or exported?

C: Yeah sure...a total increase..:D!!

P: Oh thanx for telling me that Mr. FM....So now ill concentrate on signing more item numbers, anyways its on the rise now!!!

Dee: Finally, what do you have to say about your each other's style statement?

P: Hmm...i think the FM's specs kinda look outdated...he should go in for the Preity Zinta kinda specs!!!

C: Well, i think she should try wearing the 9 yards Southie saree!!! Lets c how much added benefit she would be to my son, if he were to like her then!!!

Thank you so much both of you for coming on this show!!

Contest Questions:-

1) What is the power of Mr.FM's specs?

2) What is Priyanka Chopra's height?

Contest Prizes:

Winners will win a chat with PC and PC on the PC..:D!!!(Mebbe teleconferencing too..:p!!!)

Dont forget to tune in next time, same place on the same show!!

Remembering moi...

Yesterday i had gone to visit some of my family friends who still stay in the colony where i grew up. The visit brought back a lot of fond memories of my childhood. I was visitig the place almost after 3 years. Set against the backdrop of mountains, very unlike-Mumbai kind of appearance, AnushaktiNagar still remains a heavenly place.
I visited the building in which i stayed for 10 years. Children were swinging gleefully in the swing in which i must have swung for hours in the evening. The see-saw was still there and kids around were still fighting to get a chance just to sit on it. I visited my entrance in which i have played all sorts of games like langdi-chipdi,red letter, sunday..monday,crocodile crocodile, lagori, hide and seek etc etc... The two trees across which we used to tie the net and play badminton are still there. The lanes through which i used to run to catch my school bus, the markets which i used to go to get a 1Re. chocolate, the roads where i fell umpteen number of times while learning cycling just brought back fond memories of the "little" me. I guess all my lessons in life like "falling and getting up", "learning to survive", "living everyday to the fullest"..i have got from here.
While i was returning I also met our ironwallah, paperwallah and they recognised me almost instantly and enquired about everyone at my place. They were surprised to see me grown up but they were kind enough to say that my smile still remained as lively and intact as it ever was..
Thats when i realised that i had indeed grown up, for right or wrong reasons, i dunno..but the kid in me is still intact within moi....and i'm really glad that I have been able to preserve the "real" me......

"Buck"waas decision....!!

Seriously not done not done!!! However much i knw that umpires are also humans and they can also make mistakes but in such matches where everything is going so evenly poised such blunders can actually tilt the matches in any team's favour.
I regard Steve Bucknor as one of the good umpires but his decision of judging Sachin caught behind was really "Buck"waas. Sachin looked in real good form and then zap came Buckie's decision!!! Today Bucknor is being felicitated for his standing as umpire for 100 Test matches and this decision was not surely wat he wanted just before that event.
Sum genuine advice to umpires:
1) Judge properly else take the third umpire's opinion.
2) If umpires have spectacles(like Bucknor) please go for a regular eye checkup to check your power..absolutely needed..fees will be sponsored by ICC!!
3) Instead of standing on the othe rend...stand alongside the wicketkeeper..if that would help you in judging better...;) and also catch a few catches if u can..:D!!

And im still keeping my fingers crossed for Sachin's 35th Test century...:-)!!

Trademark Statements....

A statement can almost become an identity. Be it a film or any advertising campaign...some statements becme famous and that's wat i term here as "trademark" statements. Statements like Amrish Puri's "Mogambo khush hua" or Dharam's "Kutte main tera khoon pee jaunga" or Amitabh's "mere paas maa hai"....have left an impact for ages to come. You just identify the film or the actors in it automatically from the statements. But thats the entertainment industry and they have dialog writers exclusively for them who write such dialogues.
But i noticed that even we,as people, generally have our trademark statements but they have not yet become famous...so i thought that let me just cite the example of my friends and make their statements or lets say, words famous..:p;)!!

Phal:-
Words: "lemme sleep..shut up","i av lots of work..u do the work"
Status: Invisible

Arul:-
Words: "sheesh", "tsk tsk..."
Status: zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Favourite smiley: :p (almost used at the end of evry stmt!!)

Saurabh:-
Words: "awesome", "take care hon"
Status: "rain when i die" or "UB Bulls"

Srini:-
Words: "bratso"
Status: "in Virginia"
Favourite smiley: :-) (almost used at the end of evry stmt again!!)

Hemanshu:-
Words: "chubbe", "hay, kitni pyaari baatein karti hai", "lol"
Favourite smiley: :-), :((

Nam:-
Words: "duffer..chup kar", "so jaa"
Favourite timepass: Buzzing!!

Seem:-
Words: "ho gaya", "dimaag mat kha"

Hari:-
Words: "Hey prabhu", "oh baby", "cockroach"

Vrush:-
Words: "saali", "20"

I guess thats all i can remember as of now...Will update more if i remember sumthin!! I hope noones gonna come and hit me...:p!!

Hope....

Hope

When all about you is black with gloom,
And all you feel is pending doom.
When your bones are racked with grim despair -
When every breath is a gasp for air.
Keep on going, though you need to grope,
For around the bend is a ray of hope.

A ray of hope is perhaps all that's left,
As your will to live has been bereft.
You've lost it all, it's just no use!
You can end it all, you need no excuse.
But throw away that piece of rope,
And give yourself a chance of hope.

Just give yourself another day,
Brushing aside what your thoughts may say.
This is your life and you can make a new start,
By ignoring the brain - just follow the heart.
Taking baby steps in order to cope,
And minute by minute you'll build on your hope.

Build on your hope,. one day at a time,
Though the road be steep and hard to climb.
The hurts of the past - they should be dead.
The fears of the future are all in your head.
Just live in the present and refuse to mope
Your life will sparkle for you're living in hope...

Interestingly poised match...

India look to be on the brink of a victory in the first test going on in Mohali, but all this depends on how much lead do they allow Pak to take cos otherwise this is surely gonna end in a draw. The highlights of this match have surely been Sehwag's dynamic knock, L.Balaji's amazing comeback and of course, Kumble's prize wickets. Tendulkar played a slow knock to reach his 94 but still the excitement for him to surpass Gavaskar's record is very much there..:-) I am keeping my fingers crossed on that for sure..:D!!!
Well, Kaneria has been a find for the Pak but his consistency is yet to be seen. Anyways our funda has always been..jo bhi aaye dho daalo...:D!!! So try ur best India...:-)!!

From the game of whites its time to move on to the game of black and white. Looks like Kasparov is retiring..thats like some news!!! Cos ever since i remember the two names i have ever heard in chess have been Kasparov and our reliable V.Anand. Looks like the Linares chess tournament has been a tale of twists and turns with Anand losing out on his game and Kasparov losing his game too and citing that there are no more goals to achieve in chess and all this combined with the problems of "unified tension" in the World Championships and FIDE failing to take any action on it. But anyways if the news of Kasparov retiring stands ground..then hats off to this legend for sure.......The show goes on..........

Will miss the times....

Times well-spent always remain as pleasant memories for a long time to come. Each phase goes and a new phase comes by and memories just keep accumulating. This struck me more yesterday when Nam came to meet me yesterday. She had got sandwiches which her mom had sent for me from Pune and as usual , Aunty's sandwiches tasted awesome. Well she's leaving her job here this month end and going back to Pune. Anyways shes gonna start a new phase there and I'm really happy for her. Well i didnt feel that i'll miss the times with her after we finished engineering cos she got placed in Mumbai and we almost met every alternate day and spoke almost daily. She, being in Mumbai at this time really helped me a lot.
Her thoughtfulness, her acceptance, her support is what will always remain with me. I can just think of 2 lines at this moment....

Standing by everything
is easy....
Standing by nothing
is tough...

And all I can murmur in return is a feeble "thank you"......

Cricky days are here again..!!!

The Indo-Pak series begins today and i feel that time this time the media hype is comparatively lesser than the previous series. So this is good news because then people will focus on the game instead of the over-hyped Sachin-Shoaib or Ganguly-Haq contest. Pakistan has a new and young team...so we'll have to wait and watch as to wat surprise they have up their sleeve...but neways i am sure our team's game..:D!!! I am looking forward to the one-dayers more than the Tests...but still support is always there for India in any fo rm of the game.
So here goes my traditional Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyy before the start of every series and i guess my first post on cricket in 2005 too... here's hoping that India really does well, Sachin reaches his milestone soon and Pathan keeps lookin cuter and bowling better:p!!!

Happy MahaShivaratri to all and i hope Pakistan team dances to the tunes of the Indian team!! God bless!!!
